View Full Version : RROD After Lite-on Flash

As the title states I'm having issues after flashing my drive.
Here is the background:
I bought the Xecuter Blaster CK3 and installed it.
I have a VIA VT6421 PCI card running on Win7 32-bit.
I have a Lite-on 74850C drive and it took awhile to extract the key (which did have 10 successful captures).
I couldn't get my drive to recognize with JungleFlasher so I had to use DosFlash32 to extract the key.
I used JungleFlasher to spoof the target firmware (ix16-liteon-repack) and write my new firmware.
Because JungleFlasher wouldn't recognize my drive, I tried to use DosFlash32 again.
After erasing the drive I attempted to flash it, but it froze while writing to bank 0.
Tried different ports and cables without success and eventually made a bootable DosFlash.
Never had a problem getting the FF72 status, but eventually I was able to write to all four banks (about cried for joy when it finally worked).
Jumping for joy I hooked the Xbox360 to my TV and turn it on... just to received a single LED ring of death.
I Googled for answers and found that it was a hardware issue and that I should receive a code on my screen, but my screen was blank.
I switched from HDMI to basic component inputs and still received no pictures.
I also read online about a secondary code for instances where you have no picture.
I received a 1000 code (1 LED followed by three 4 LED), and of course searching that code didn't help because it is listed as "unknown at this time".
My first thought is to try and reflash the drive again, but it gave me such a hassle I'm almost worried do that again.
Figured I would ask the experts what they recommend first.
Thanks for your time!

follow any tut?
my first flash did RROD. i remember it was a hardware issue (secondary code) dont remember the exact code.
what happened was i had a compatibility issue with the driver.( iwas using a laptop at the time)ended up using my pc and disabled the driver, no probs after that!
i used a tut that is very descriptive(g00gle how to flash a stock lite-on 74850c)
what happened was the drive was erased and had no firmware on it.
have you tried to disable the driver and reflash?

follow any tut?
First I followed the JungleFlasher PDF, then I used the readme doc in the DosFlash directory when JungleFlasher didn't detect my drive.
have you tried to disable the driver and reflash?
Yeah... JungleFlasher had me disable the driver and I installed PortIO32 (had to manually install) which I verified was OK in the Device Manager.
Though I haven't tried to reflash since my Ring-of-Death encounter because it was such a PITA to get my drive to flash because it always froze while writing to bank 0

Well... I hooked the drive to my PC and used DosFlash to read it.
It didn't show any firmware information on the drive, so I guess it wasn't flashed.
I tried to flash it (with DosFlash64 since I'm now using my Win7 64-bit) and it freezes while erasing the drive.
I then used my bootable DosFlash USB drive and it froze while writing to bank 0.
And of course JungleFlasher still doesn't even recognize the drive is there.
This is starting to piss me off and I'm stuck with this expensive paper-weight.
I can mod an original xbox with the Xecuter3 chip and run Evox with my eyes closed, but this stupid thing has been giving me grief for a week now.

Here is a visual of what I'm dealing with:
1838
In DOS it recognizes the device, I can erase the drive, but it freezes while writing to bank 0.
Obviously this isn't a driver issue since I'm running in DOS.
I think I'll try to bypass the Xecuter Blaster CK3 device and run my SATA cable straight to the drive.
Just hate having to take this thing apart again.
I'm getting real desperate here :(

You might have to swap that drive.
Try l-o-eras before, though.

You might have to swap that drive.
What do you mean swap it?
Swap with another Lite-On drive?
Try l-o-eras before, though.
I used L-O-ERAS to get my status from FF80 to FF72, then I would attempt to flash it with Dosflash.

Swap it with any other drive, spoofing your inquiry and key string in it.
Jungle Flasher makes this task really, really easy.
Looks like the SPi flash of that drive is messed up, had a few of them.

I've done the manual spoofing in Jungle Flasher (I was trying ANYTHING to get this to work).
So basically I can take another drive's "dummy" file as a source firmware, use the Lite-On ix16-liteon-repack as my target firmware, then manually spoof my drive's key and inquiry file?

No, you spoof the info of YOUR dummy.bin into an iextreme fw and flash it to another drive.

Oh... so I need to purchase another drive and spoof my dummy.bin to that drive?
Thanks for taking the time to help me... I really appreciate it.

Sounds to me like you extracted a bad dvd key.

Sounds to me like you extracted a bad dvd key.
If that's the case is there anything I can do since I've already erased the drive?
What do you recommend I do to remedy this issue?

My DVD Key looks like this (1st four characters hidden):
****72C67097A44DA3B19C52E3FE2963
And it was verified 10 times.
Do you still think it could have been a bad key extract?

I'm pretty much at a lost until I figure out what is really causing my issue.
I know a guy who flashed his drive (not a Lite-On) so I may ask him if I can borrow it to see if my key & inquiry spoofing will work on his drive.
Though I wouldn't blame him if he is reluctant to let me experiment on his drive.
But if he has his flash saved on his PC, I assume he can simply flash back to get the drive to work on his again.
If not that, I read a tutorial where someone soldered wires to the mobo to extract the key from it.
Hopefully I can borrow a used drive and it actually works.
I'm still open to any other ideas/suggestions.
I currently formatted my PC's hard drive to install WinXP and have it dual boot with my Win7 64-bit.
Most of the tutorials involve using WinXP so I figured I'll cover all grounds.

I would first like to thank radament1 (http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/member.php?u=150662) for suggesting a new drive for my issue.
I borrowed my friend's BenQ drive that he bought used on eBay, but never got around to trying the flash since he has overheating issues with his 360.
Anyway... I loaded my dummy.bin source file into JungleFlasher and used the BenQ iXtreme 1.61 firmware as the target.
Then I spoofed it and wrote the new firmware.
After loading my bootable DosFlash I was able to erase and flash the drive without any complications!
I went back into DosFlash and it listed the drive as a DG-16D2S (which is my LiteOn model number) so it definitely thinks the drive is a LiteOn.
I hooked the 360 to my TV and turned it on... and was HAPPY to see the dash once again!
I inserted a game (store bought) and the drive made a couple sounds like gears grinding.
The dash said it was reading the disc, but then it went back to "open tray".
I'm thinking this isn't due to the firmware, but more like a bad drive.
Remember, my friend bought this on eBay and has never tried it out before to know if it worked prior to me borrowing it.
What do you guys think... can a "bad flash" allow me to boot into the dash but not operate the drive properly?
Thanks again for all your time and to those who have helped thus far!

Thats a bad drive. You'd get a nice message about putting your stuff in an xbox360 console if it'd be a bad key.
I also recommend Benq drives btw, way more reliable than Samsungs.
