Status: Offline Hitachi 046 / 047 PCB Fix
PLEASE NOTE THIS METHOD IS NOW OBSOLETE. THERE IS A NO SOLDER ADAPTER PLUG THAT FIXES ALL DRIVE PROBLEMS ON ALL HITACHIS.

There were quite a few issues with some of the older Hitachi 046 and 047 DVD units when used with the Blaster 360 and we have spent a great deal of time investigating the cause.

For those that have issues we have designed an immediate fix which requires a tiny amount of easy soldering to solve the poor latency of these Hitachi drives. You also have to cut the two traces between the two soldering points - its not difficult and easily reverible if you ever need to.

Its simply adding 2 x missing 10nf capacitors to the DVD drive circuit board (as seen in the pictures)

We will be providing these PCB's free of charge for resellers to ship to customers who wish to try this solution to fix their problems (non booting, E64 etc). Shipping of the PCB fixes has started to all resellers. Here are some pictures, we will post install instructions when the fix is available to ship.

Great works guys!!! I do have a question though.. hope you didn't post it somewhere else and I missed it.

I am not that great with a soldering gun, actually I have only done it a few times, and it was not on anything of importance so I didn't care if I screwed it up. So my question is, is there anything in the works for a non soldering fix? I thought I read that there was a whole new blaster360 for the 46/47 but I don't remember where I saw it. Any clarification would be great. Once again, I hope I'm not asking a double question, there are just so many threads to read through, its hard to keep up with all of them!!!

Like I said though, GREAT work, you guys came up with this fix rather quick!!! You really know what your doing! Bravo!!!

BTW

Which value do the capacitors have? I don't want to wait to fix my drive with this. It is 47 nF or 100 nF looking at the color of the caps? shape is 0603 if i look at the pics. Thx.

TIP: Don't push the solder gun on the pads of the component, just lay it on the pads. And don't hold it on the pads for too long. Average solder time is 2 or 3 seconds.

Wow, so I'm going to have to pay for shipping on this too... The cost of shipping from divineo is $15 to USA. This is far from free for me and VERY dissappointing. So far your product has proved useless for me since it disables use of my 360 entirely when installed and I only got word of this after it was paid for and shipped to my house. You should be providing this free of charge and directly shipping to customers who need one.

Apparently not enough testing was done prior to release. A hardware add-on feels like you won't be finding a firmware fix either. I applaud your efforts, but if this is going to cost us more money on an already expensive device, this is a sad, sad day.

I have a big problem with the seller, they wont answer any emails. Tried a dozen or so times, there is also no warning of the 046/47 issue on their website
what can I do with the unit I have? Im certainly not fitting it reading all the problems people are having, and I cannot contact the seller (console source)

consolesource too have no comment regarding the drive latency on their website
I even cancelled right away about 10 minutes after I made the order, but they still charged me and shipped it.
Right now, its just a piece of plastic to me, cant do a thing with it

Same question here.
I dont want to bug divineo to get that pcb, and why use a quicksolder pcb when i can just install 2 caps directly to the board myself...

Please give us the specs.
