Sharpies contain: n-propanol, n-butanol, diacetone alcohol and cresol. The first of these, n-propanol, is commonly used in cosmetics. The other three are industrial solvents. so to answer ur question no they are not conductive.

That looks ok to me.

Just remove the solder and excess flux then try again using a smaller tip and solder.
Remember to let the solder flow dont pile it on just use what you need.

Radio shack sells a trace fixer pen for $20. works ok. sharpies are not conductive.

That is not bad at all! Just clean it up with copper braid, then wipe down board with alcohol. Then instead of using pure solder to connect traces, use 30 awg wire and solder it in the direciton of the trace--also make sure your pin101 isnt broken.

Oh and if you are investing your money in something... dont get the pen, get a multimeter with continuity test instead- It will do you much more good!!

Good to hear your up and running again. What did you do in the end? put 7 series PCB in 9 series drive and flash 9 series FW to the 7 series PCB?

I was thinking of getting a 7 series drive and flash my 9 series firmware and then put the second drive in the xdrive so I can easily switch between stock and modded drives, so keen to know your results. by all accounts the 9 series FW should flash happily to the 7 series PCB but not come accross anyone actuall confirming they have sucessfully done it!

Its not bad at all yours is very easy to fix. Get desolder and make that second pic look like your First one again. Then just go to Radio Shack and get Wire (Catalog #: 278-503), and just solder the points together. Test with multimeter you should have all the connections fixed.

Inquire about my Xbox 360 Modding Services, and Jtag Service at Tonyintn@comcast.net.

I actually just bought a brand new 7 series drive and flashed my 9series OFW then rebuilt the CFW with the board/drive/laser serial numbers and it worked out great. I actually have a used 7series up for sale on ebay that took too long to get here so I ended up buying a new one also, and I have my original 9series drive that I'm probably going to hold onto for parts.

So there's your confirmation!
Here's the thread where a member told me it could be done if you would like to read:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=707730

I'm going to see if I can sell the extra 7series drive I have now, I don't really feel like shipping it all the way back to Canada...
